The Iodine-Enhanced DMSO product contains 10% (by volume) polyvinyl pyrrolidone iodine (PVP-I), the standard iodine-containing product for antiseptic and general antimicrobial skin application. Since its first use over 200 years ago, iodine solutions have proven not only their remarkable efficacy against microbes, but also their almost unique ability to avoid any hint of anti-microbial resistance production. In a world in which “ordinary infectious diseases may kill” – due to antimicrobial resistance, according to the World Health Organization, iodine stands virtually alone as both an essential micro-nutrient, a powerful anti-oxidant, and a uniquely effective antiseptic/antibiotic.
DMSO is approved by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) for dog and horse veterinary applications. In a reaction to its early discovery as a potential cure-all, and its flagrant promotion as a potential cancer drug, the FDA has disallowed human use. However, some states are so unhappy about the FDA’s unwillingness to approve DMSO for specified human uses that they have passed legislation contrary to the FDA anti-DMSO mandate. Florida, for example, specifically exempts physicians from any liability or intrusion within the context of a well-disclosed prescribing of DMSO to human patients.
In our opinion, DMSO is generally safe for many human uses, especially in conjunction with the iodine antiseptic with which we package it for dog application. Please consult your physician before any human use.
This product contains 50% iodine (as PVP-I). Its stronger concentration may cause staining, although stains are quickly removed with a 9:1 dilution of water:bleach. Like the iodine-enhanced version, it is (generally) non-staining, not-irritating to skin, non-toxic and well-accepted by both human and animal patients.
